The steering hand pump on my 1086 is leaking, a steady stream, coming from the top and bottom of the seal retainer. I have replaced the rotor seal, retorqued the 7 end bolts and the pump still leaks. Any ideas as what to look for next. The Case/IH parts man said that the seal is all that is usually in need of replacing. Thanks for any help.

Is it leaking from the top and bottom plates or from the seal on the shaft?? Sometimes the bushing gets woren and a new seal will still leak if the shaft has tomuch movement. . I have had to replace the outside seal under the seal retainer but i am thinking that i have only done this about three time in 20 years . If the top plate and bottom plate are warped then it will never stop.

Thanks for your response. The pump is leaking from the top and bottom of the seal retainer, where the retainer touches the body and where the retainer touches the bottom plate. The retainer turns after the bottom plate is torqued to 15 ft/lbs, I assumed that was normal. Has anybody tried a bead of JB weld around those 2 seams to keep the fluid in? I was trying to avoid buying a new pump for $1000.
