My 4-H leader bought a 43 H, good shape. I got looking at it last night and there is a part i have never seen before, i will explain as easily as i can. You know where you put oil in, i don't know what it is called, at the front of the tractor? Well there is a rod that comes from the front by the stick that turns on the pulley, and goes to the front by where the oil fill is. It is attached on the left side. You can turn this rod to adjust something. Thanks in advance.

I assume he has a distillate burner. It would have had 2 fuel tanks. The big one for distillate (kerosene), and the smaller one for gasoline. It was started on gasoline, and after it warmed up was switched over to distillate. The rod adjusted a set of shutters over the front of the radiator, to help keep the engine temperature up depending on the load. The higher temperature was necessary when burning distillate. Everone runs them on gasoline only now, but when they were new, distillate was considerably cheaper than gas.

Thats the rod for opening and closing the shutters on the radiator,, it makes the tractor run hotter so you can run distillate fuels like Kerosene,,make sure the shutters are open if you are running it n gasoline...Jim

The rod you describe is the shutter rod. It is for adjusting the shutter openings. Hope this helps.
