We received this by Email, and posting here in hopes that we can help. We've found stolen tractors before, let's all keep an eye out for this one. Thanks! Kim

Message as received:
===== ===== ===== ==
As a little girl, some of my fondest memories were growing up on the farm and riding on the rim of my Grandfather's International Farmall M tractor. He farmed over 100 acres of land in Morrow County, Ohio with two farmall's and a little Ford. My Grandmother took care of the farm house and was delighted to cook three hearty meals a day for the whole family. My brothers and I grew up next door to my Grandparents and as soon as school was out we would run over as soon as we could to see them. They were like second parents to us and I learned so much growing up on a farm. I learned about life and death, how to work hard for a living and about giving and sharing.

My family sold most all of my Grandfather's farm equipment when he passed, but we kept one special piece of him which was his Red International Farmall M tractor. My Grandfather's entire family have all held that tractor very close to our hearts. It has sat in the barn for many years, but it was almost like my Grandfather was right there sitting on that tractor. For the past 15 years since he has passed, I know my Grandmother, siblings, parents and other family members have visited the barn to reminisce and remember my Grandfather and what a good man was.

The reason I am telling this story is because on the morning of Thursday, Febuary 19'th two men parked a white flat bed truck at the end of my Grandfather's driveway and drove a small tractor down the drive. They broke in to my Grandfather's barn and hauled the Red International Farmall M, with flat tires, and the cutter up the drive and loaded it on their truck. Most anyone reading this will know that the tractor and cutter is not worth that much, but a lifetime of memories have been stolen from my family and myself. I still have pictures in my office of when I was a little girl on that tractor with my brothers and my Grandfather and that was all taken away from us by someone needing a little money. My family could have sold it if we wanted the money, but it was so sentimental to us that we left it in the barn to remember my Grandfather.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of my Grandfather's Red International Farmall M tractor that was stolen on Febuary 19'th, you would be mending the hearts of a whole family who misses our dear Grandfather and the one thing he loved most in life...farming with his Farmall Tractor. Please send any confidential replys to osubuckeye1972@yahoo.com Sincerely, A family of broken hearts

I'll be going to the local consignment sales here in NW Ohio and will keep an
eye open. Here's a few thoughts I had. Good luck.
1.) If you have a close up picture, post it.
2.) Post the serial #, if you haven't already.
3.) Any other distinguishing features.
4.) What year is it?
5.) Report it to the authorities.
6.) Check the local tire stores. If those tires were flat, they may have bought replacments to drive it around.
7.) Check tire recycling yards, they may may have dumped those bad tires.
8.) Any local surveylence cameras that might have got it on tape? Just a thought.

I appreciate everyone's advice on the stolen tractor. I can assure anyone that it had nothing to do with the family, but I appreciate the idea of that. I am working on getting the year and the picture will be posted soon. I did find out that the old battery cable was replaced with airline jet cables which may have been white in color. They apparently conduct the charge a lot better then regular batteries. So if you're at the auction or come across a model M, check out the cables! Thank again!

Ohio M Puller, I read your post, that's a good place to start. I was down to the Mount Gilead show two years ago and had a great time down there, I hope to get down again , perhaps next year. I have a friend over at Coshocton who collects Masseys. Mount Gilead had a good auction when I was there, I picked up two H grills for $50, sold one for $30 as I was walking out and brought home a mint grill for $20...no wonder I like Mount Gilead show. I may take a few Massey Ferguson snowmobiles down, as they are rare and rare in your part of Ohio. I sure hope that M shows up and the State Troopers can get into the act..... .Mike in Exeter Ontario

First and foremost, if they haven't already, they need to check with all extensions in there direct family. A sibling, grandchild, son-in-law, excetra may have arranged for tractor to be removed from premises (needed money and sold it, or something of that nature). One branch of my family turned out to be complete snakes when it came to my Grandmothers stuff after she passed. Secondly, they really need to report it stolen to law enforcement if they haven't already. Thirdly, it was most likely stolen or arranged to be taken by somebody that new where it was. That should narrow the list of suspects down quit a little bit.

We do know FOR SURE who arranged for someone to take it. Of course, without proof though we cannot put blame on them. That doesn't help though because we still are not able to find the people that they arranged to take it. I am sure that they sold it to someone. That is why I was hoping someone might know something. They had either owned or rented a white truck with a large flat bed to haul it. Our neighbors actually saw them leaving with the tractor! (They did not know it was stolen from the barn).

How do you know FOR SURE they arranged it? Did they admit to it? Sounds like there is some doubt since you can't prove it. You can't just point fingers and whine around about it. I don't mean to put it like that, but that isn't going to bring the tractor back. If you suspect somebody, that is fine. Is what you need to do is get them to admit to it, first and foremost. If they are guilty, your best bet on getting tractor back, is to find out what that person knows. They know something. They aren't going to tell you Didly Squat unless you get them to admit to it. Then they will tell you the trueth unless they are covering for the next guy in the chain, but if they admit to it, you got em. Follow that chain and you will find the tractor. Your neighbor saw an unknown party and vehicle take the tractor. You may be able to stretch their story as to what all they saw to get who you suspect to admit they arranged it. Just a suggestion, if you don't have any other ideas. I just think, that this way is your best bet. Even if somebody finds it on here, you still have the burden of proving it to be yours, which all kind of leads back to proving the person that arranged to have it taken actually did.

Buckeye, You could always have Maurice Clarett fill out the police report. I'm sure he woudn't underestimate the tractors value. Seriously, And I am a diehard Buckeye fan, I would get the person aside who you think authorized the removal, and do some serious arm twisting. Even though that person may deny any involvement and dare you to prove your suspicions, the threat of a couple broken legs may just shake the truth out of that person. Once the law gets involved, its grand theft. I'd say that if you have a good lead, lean hard on it. Kin or no Kin, a thief is a thief.

I agree with Paul you have to find someone or several folk with the gumption to get butt kickin serious with that person who set it up. You will have to dog em, and track em and lean on em til you get the information you need to pin down those who took it. Loaned a guy $1800 once. The night I gave him the money my wife told me I'd never seee it again. Two weeks later he was due to pay it back. Three weeks he was over due and I had not seen or heard from him. I called his work phone, it was out of service. Every place I went I left word I was lookin to find this guy. Took a week to track down where he lived. Couldn't find him home. He lived 40 minutes from me. Kept calling his landlord. I found a number for his cousin. I kept leaving messages with landlord and cousin for that dude to get hold of me. I told them he owed me money. Called neare on every day. Went up and sat on his doorstep nights. Ran across him several times. He'd tell me he'd pay this day or that and not show. Kept callin and sittin. Sometimes real late at night if his car was there but nobody answered the door I'd sit for a while with my headlights on his car and the motor runnin. Ran across him at his apartment again and things got a little hot. He didn't have the money. He arranged a meet and failed to show again. Week six, I called the landlord from work. Got a lead he was at a horsetrack. Left work early and went to the track. Parked next to his vehicle. Went in lookin for him. He must a seen me and split. A week later he called and met me with the money. I think it rattled him some I was able to find him at that track. If I had not dogged him like I did for two months I know I never would have gotten that money back. I never lend money no more.

The description of the truck sounds like it might be a "roll back" often used by auto salvages, and wrecker services. That might be a starting point if you can find one in the area that fits the description. Possibly they were hired to pick up and deliver the tractor. Just curious, have you notified local law enforcement along with providing the name of the individual you know to be involved? Perhaps they could persuade him to give up some information. (although I admit I have never had any success with this)

Maybe they plan on restoring it and then returning it... happened to a neighbor a while ago- family member borrowed tractor, and then sent it off to get the tractor restored as a surprise. Neighbor said someone stole it from his family member's farm... but he was sure surprised to see it back in his yard with a new paint job!

I noted that around my country place things that get stolen are due to second hand knowledge
passed on inadvertantly by well meaning people.

The ones that get caught say they heard it from someone who knows someone, who knows someone, etc and can be traced back to a aquaintence of the family.

A little investigation work could probably turn up something. These people operate in rings
and usually hit an area before moving on.

One more indicator how valuable these little reliable old tractors are today.

I would contact Smith & Wesson. Also Mr. Colt and Winchester help to. I would also start a fire under the local law enforcement. If it is stolen, that piece of equipment could be valued much higher b/c of it being a family heirloom.

The first thing that crosses my mind is the possibility that it may have been quickly parted out. Hopefully that is not the case, and the culprits will be located along with the tractor still intact. I have a piece of property where my parents used to live until their passing. Until last fall I had dad's old Farmall C stored in a shed there under lock and key. I have since moved it to where I now live. Last week I went to check on the place, and found one door on the house broken open, and the shed had had a weak attempt at being pried open. I had heard there was a group going around entering houses in the area mostly stealing guns. Thankfully I had removed all valuables, and they did not do any more damage than they did to the place.
