I have noticed that alot of folks that have these and use them alot have changed them to power steering (I am talking about a narrow front tractor). I would like an opinion or two as to if this is neccessary. Thanks in advance

I baled over 8000 bales last summer with an M, and I can tell you that the "armstrong" power steering doesn't work nearly as well as it did a long time ago when I was nineteen. I have been threatening to add power steering every year for the past fifteen years, but every year some other piece of machinery eats the money before I can do it.

And I can't spell my own name either.

I got a laugh out of that one, partly because I didn't even notice. Don't feel bad Harold, I've done worse.

Steve - Power steering is not absolutely necessary on an M. Countless millions of tractor hours have been worked with manual-steered M's and SM's. HOWEVER having PS makes an M (or any other tractor) a lot more pleasant to operate - especially on rough ground and in close quarter maneuvering.

Also in my situation the women (wife/daughters) will now only drive the PS equipped tractors. They have no desire to wrestle the wheel on non-PS equipment anymore - and I really cannot blame them.

Power steering is not necessary but sure is nice if you are using the tractor with any heavy front mounted equipment such as a loader or 4-row cultivator.
