IH offered the number series in may ways. You could order or get a bareboned 400 with nothing (PS-TA-FH-Live PTO) pretty much like a M only 400's had 50 HP.
Most tractors came with the new options, because that was the selling points of the new models. Some farmers opted to stay with the straight drawbar so they would not have to buy all new equipment with the tractor.
For some reason all 400 diesels came with the drawbars they had to be, in most cases, special ordered to get the FH.

Bought one for 350 dollars and it makes the tractor worth 700 dollars more. You can do so much more with the 400 with 2 point hitch.

Draw bar was standard on the 400. Fast Hitch was an option. Most were sold with the fast hitch though.

I have a 400 with starter problems.
Any suggestions on replacement? I
don't have a serial plate.
Mine has the fast-hitch.

Emmett, you didn't say if your 400 was a diesel or LP, as these take differnt starters. I got a rebuilt one for my gas 450 from Steel Wheel Ranch, $75 without the solinoid.
