I have a IHC 743 with a D239 engine, which has a problem with the oil pressure. The oil-pressure light on the dash goes on and off(after it runs a while)and I don't think it is an electrical problem. The motor runs well, starts well and does sound good. I am not sure that the oil I used is perfect, but for the rest everything should be ok. What could it be: pressure switch? worn out pump? sieve got stuck? I don't know where to start? Does somebody know what is most obvious?

Thanks guys, for your advice.
I installed a oil-pressure meter as suggested. The dash-light was not lying, because the oil pressure meter says the oil-pressure is declining after a while. I also chequed the oil. I used 15W/40 CF from Motomaster. I agree: it is not the most expensive you can find on the market but according to its specification it should do the job. I tried to find 20W/40, but nobody seems to have this in stock. Only one suplier had it, but has said he only sold it to Harley davidson owners. Right now i got the feeling that the oil pump is the cause. Removing the carter pan of this engine seems to be a though job. But when I am convinced of the fact that it is the oil-pump who is causing the trouble, I have to start with it..... .

See my response to post "H Oil Pressure" on Page 2 dated 1/31. Start with questioning your oil. A mechanical problem should show up instantly, oil breakdown takes time for it to get hot and thin out.

I believe i would locate the pressure sending unit, install a tee fitting and manual gauge to find out the exact pressure. That will tell you where to start.
