Governor trouble on a 53 Super A?

I have a 53 Super A and it when it's cold out the engine tends to hunt sometimes. I went out plowing snow (there wasn't very much but I wanted to know if the blade I built works) last night and if you start of in any gear with the blade on the ground the engine bogs down and if you push in the clutch before it stalls then it will start to hunt. The only thing that will stop it hunting is dropping the throttle to idle until is stabilises and then increasing it again. I wasn't out very long but the governor was warm to the touch by the time I was done and the problem was better but still there. I'm thinking about rebuilding the governor and was wondering what parts I will need, what should be replaced or checked, and what adjustments I should make afterwards. Thanks, SAm in NS

Have you made any adjustments to it recently? The bolt in the top of the housing adjusts the speed settings and there is a nut on the bottom of housing that adjusts the governor spring. When the speed is adjusted, the control spring needs adjusted as well to eliminate the condition you are describing. If you don't have any luck there, Steel Wheel Ranch should be able to set you up with a re-build kit. www.steelwheelranch.com
