Tomorrow I have to adjust the valves on my Farmall C, it's got the C113 engine. To do this, I just start @ number 1 position & work my way back turning the motor so the valve I am working on is closed & the distance between the rocker & valve tip is .014? Do I have this right???

I would set them at about .015 cold, run until hot, then set to .014, just make sure they are closed -- compression stroke.

I leave them a little looser than that but cold measurement it should work. I don't follow any order just keep checking them and make sure they are closed. Realy I prefer to adjust with the motor warm and running.

You don't. That's why you are checking them. Sure-fire determination is to find #1 TDC compression stroke, and set the valve clearance on #1. Give the crank a half turn and check #3; half turn and check #4; half turn and check #2. At any time, only two valves out of the eight are open, and those two are on different cylinders, one intake and one exhaust. One of the other cylinders is on the compression stroke and the other one on the power stroke, so all of those valves are closed. Unless the rocker arms are WAY out of adjustment, it's pretty easy (with the valve cover removed) to spot the two cylinders with open valves. At that point, it's OK to check the valve clearance on the other two cylinders. The valves are NOT in a continuous opening-closing motion. The cam action on the push rods only opens each valve for one half turn of the crank for every two full revolutions, so it should be obvious when a valve is SUPPOSED to be closed.
