Removing Regular Pistons

I'm removing the pistons from my Regular. Unlike other Farmalls, the base of the connecting rod is too wide to fit through the sleeve. Are these supposed to be removed and replaced through the bottom?

If so, how do you remove #1 and #4? #1 is currently hitting the crankshaft and won't come out any farther. I'm trying to remove the piston pin so I can take off the rod; then I can push the piston through the top. Thank you for your help.

Jeff

Haven't ever had pistons out of my Regular, but the RE from cowman sounds real helpfull. sounds like you will be pulling the head anyway but if not be carefull not to push the pistons up too far .I think their is enough room for the piston to go too high and the rings will pop out! .Then you will have to take the head off. I (OOPS) DID IT ON MY F-30 WHILE REPLACING A ROD BEARING. Hope your having fun with the regular . I plowed with mine A couple weeks ago.

yes, they come out the bottom, wiggle them a little, turn the crank in a differnt spot , hold your mouth just right, cuss a little, but don't force them, they will drop right out.

Thank you, Cowman. When I put them back in, do I just use a common piston ring compressor?

The rest of the story - the crankshaft is stuck, so I can't get the piston out. I detached the transmission and removed #2 and #3 (#4 will have its rod cap off tomorrow). I'm going to try to move the crank after all the pistons are off it, but I think the camshaft is stuck, too. I also can't get the oil pump out - I removed the two bolts, but it won't come out (it looks like it's in good shape, though).

Reinstalling Rings: I push the piston (without rings) up from below and put the rings on above the block and then use a ring comepressor to get them down into the cyclinder. Others use the tapered feature of the sleeves to insert the piston with rings from below.
