Does anyone have a good substitute for the bullet tool ED-3396 for working on the hydraulic controls of a 400? It is used to install the garter spring and garter spring sleeve. I really need to get the tractor out of the garage. The IH dealer will not be open for 2 more days. Thanks for any info!!!

The Case IH people are unlikely to have this available. A technique which works (combined with some patience) is to figure out which socket in your tool box is about the right size, and use it to hold the spring open while you reassemble the valve. It works, but if you are successful the first time you try it, you're a lot better than I am (which isn't hard to be).

You may want to consider whether you really want to include the garter springs. They're only useful for locking the control valve open until the cylinder reaches the end of its travel, and then the valve is supposed to automatically close. This probably won't happen at low engine RPMs, and it also depends upon a bunch of other little bitty parts in the control valve working properly. All in all, this feature may be more trouble than it will really be worth to you.

Thanks for the info, dick. I cut the end off of a cheap ($2.05) plastic funnel. Worked really well. It's all back together. Have some more assembly to go to find out if the replaced seal(O-ring) leaks.
