I am looking to put live hyd on my M and am wondering what pumps work best. I know there is a cast and an alunimun version, is one better then the other? Also I know I have to change some parts to drive the pump, what exactly do I need and what tractors can I get them from? I am guesssing I need the parts from a super M, 400 or 450 but will the pump and/or engine parts work from a super H, 300, 350? Once I have the pump in place how is the best way to plum it in?

here are some pics of my 45 H with live hyd. used a new pump and a used engine cover from a 300. was using the belly pump for oil storage until about 2 weeks ago. installed the tank over the axel housing. it holds 6.75 gallons. have a filter on return line to tank and a 100 mesh screen in the suction line. use the link and scroll down - new pics are at bottom.

H thru 350 will not work on an M - definite difference in size. I think the IH pumps were aluminum and M&W pumps were cast.

Super M thru 450 pump will work. You will need pump, cam gear, and front cover and plate to make it fit.

There was also a kit from M&W that drove where the distributor goes, if you found this pump you still need to change cam gears or risk breaking the gear.

As for plumbing - do you want original or functional? My website has instructions for using the belly pump reservoir for live hydraulics on an H - I think it will work on an M belly pump as well, but not sure. You will have to take it apart to see where it would be safe to drill and tap holes.

I would personally just order a 5 gallon steel tank to use as a reservoir and plumb it with a double spool valve - won't look original, but it will be functional.
