Made a deal today. It runs good, the tin is good, hydralics work, it has fast hitch, and he says he has the converter forks to make it a 3 point somewhere in the barn. Comes with an IH loader, a fast hitch scraper blade, and a fast hitch weight box.
There is no generator belt. He says it fell apart one day, and he bought a new one, but did not know how to install it, since it goes behind the fan belt. Just what is the trick to install this belt??

CNKS is correct, it's like the 300RC. There is a set screw on the flange on the upper fan belt pulley which you'll have to loosen, and then you screw the pulley out to loosen the belt enough to remove it. The sides of the pulley are two different pieces which move apart to loosen the belt, and vice versa. Probably this is going to require some penetrating oil since it sounds as though all this stuff hasn't been adjusted for quite some time. This may not be a lot of fun.

I'd strongly suggest you spend a few bucks on the Operators Manual. The Service Manual set and the Parts Manual are extremely useful if you're planning on doing maintenance yourself. Binder Books supplies very good reprints of the IH originals; some of the other vendors are greatly inferior.

Welcome to the 300U club.

Thanks for the explanations. I think I understand now. I always thought these tractors were ugly, as we had farmalls on the farms I worked on, but recently someone mentioned how much better they are than a N ford, and I got to thinking. So if this works out good, the ford will be finding a new home. I sure can use that loader around here.

Assuming the 300U is like the 300 RC, the fan pulley has a sleeve that screws out to loosen and remove the fan belt. held in place with a lock nut/bolt. The rest is self- explanatory.
