Thinking about putting a cab on my 856. Salvage yard has one off a 1066. Will a 66 series fit a 56 series? Also, what about aircondition, where would you mount a pump? Does not look like enough room under the hood for one like the 1066. Does any other company still make cabs for 56 series tractors today?

I have a factory cab off a 1456 that would fit right on your 856 but I think you would probably like the Year-A-Round cab better. IH had two different cabs for the 1066. The better one of the two usually had air conditioning but was a little on the ugly side. The other cab was better looking but air conditioning was only available as an after market item. Either of these cabs will fit but you will need to do some filling in around the hood. I would do some more looking around before buying a cab off a 1066. There are a lot of used cabs around because tractors like the 856 are being replaced by tractors like the 7220 and newer with much nicer factory cabs. Consequently the cabs are coming off and the fenders are going back on. If you want to get rid of the fenders let me know.

Larry: the cab from a 1066 will fit the 856 without much problem. You will have to modify a bit to get a tight fit around front especially in the hood area. The AC pump is another matter, I have seen two of them with pump out to one side. Looks rather ugly. You might try and find a pump that will go under hood. You start looking for a new aftermarket cab, and your talking big bucks.

W Gatewood: This is an excellent suggestion, lot of year-a-round cabs on 56 series tractors in this area. I don't know if the AC compressor will be any easier though. Most claim they were a nicer cab than the 66 series cabs IH used.
