I found an Farmall MD in the Maryland area, it is in good condition,1 owner, all orginial, (lights toolbox, weights, drawbar), good metal, tires, but is not running becasue the starter is bad, the farmer says it runs good, I was wondering if 1,800 would be a fair offer for this tractor.
Thanks

Bought mine in about '94 with new paint and in excellent shape for 2100$. I knew little about the tractor (MDs that is) but it had belonged to an inlaw who had loved it dearly so tried to keep it sort of in the family. I brought it home and discovered an oil leak on the head - don't know if it happened at the auction or something I did. Cost another 1000$ to get head repaired. Oh well, only money!! Be sure to check oil and af. 1800$ seems like plenty without being able to hear it run.

A starter is available. I just bought one by posting an ad here on the classifieds

The MD is a bit more costly to bring back to life than the M. Everything on it is more expensive to replace. They also had a tendency to crack the head if not cooled down properly. Try getting it running (by towing or cranking) annd make sure there is no oil in the water or vice versa. If everything checks out okay and you only need a starter it's not a bad price. Good luck Geoff

I would not give more than $1000 until you see it running and I consider that to be on the high side. It should be easy to start by pulling it if all is operational but the starter. Since it has a magneto, you don't need a battery to pull start it. Also consider that these use a hard to find starter that is different than the gas farmalls. Post back if you need info on how to start it, however, I would think the owner would know that.
