The correct color for red Farmalls into the late 50's was IH 50, the brighter red. I don't know the exact year that IH 2150 came out -- perhaps Guy Fay does. Case-IH does not sell IH 50, only 2150. According to Guy Fay, Case-IH considers 2150 the replacement for IH 50 on all older tractors. 2150 is darker, in fact it has kind of an orange tint that seems to vary with the mix. The PPG code for 2150 is 71310, for 50 it is 70019, DuPont and Sherwin Williams/NAPA (I think) can also mix it. I would NOT recommend any other premixed paints other than the 2150 sold by Case-IH. PPG/Dupont custom mix versions are better. Except, I believe you can buy synthetic enamel premixed from PPG also. Synthetic enamel is what Case-IH sells, as far as I know. I do not think it is acrylic enamel. Synthetic enamel is old paint chemistry. The PPG/DuPont acrylic enamels, and particularly the acrylic urethanes are superior. Acrylic Urethane is more expensive, and sells for various prices, depending on how much you want to spend.

i went to my local rural king store and bought Van Sickle case ih red which i have heard from a lot of people around where i live who have restored farmalls and Farmall H.com and they said it was very close to origional, i got it sandblasted last week and today i just got done painting it, it's a little cooler now so i'll have to wait a while longer for it to dry but i can't wait to reassemble it

Go to your Case-I.H. dealer and get #2150 I.H. red rouge, it is the correct color, is very durable, and the cost is somewhere around 8-9 dollars per quart.

Steve: I've also noticed that to some degree. I don't know how common TSC stores are in your area, but just speculation: TSC sells a BPS brand of paint that is fairly reasonable in price compared to the top-line PPGs and DuPonts. This price difference is even more striking when your dealing with the color RED. The DuPont Centari I just got for my 460 fenders ran me $37/qt. Compare that to our local BPS price of $14.54/qt for Farmall Red. So the BPS product is attractive in price, no doubt gets purchased often, and BPS' Farmall Red is indeed brighter than the traditional IHC color tone. I would say the BPS color tends to be more of a Chinese red which has more 'orangish' hue. Another thing to bear in mind, is that the newer paint systems/mixes that allow the use of a hardener or are a urethane base will likely finish out brighter and stay that way compared to the old factory enamel jobs which were bright rolling out of the factory door but after 3 months of sitting in the sun on a dealer's lot lost a bit of their sheen.

CNKS will probably pop into this thread with the correct color codes for you.

Joe, not familiar with DuPont, only PPG. What is the color code of your Centari? Guy Fay lists 96766 or 6951 AL for 50, 7410 for 2150. You implied that your paint did NOT have the orange tint? Not many old Farmalls around here, and I don't remember what IH 50 looked like new, although that has to be what the last H my dad had new was painted with. The repainted ones I have seen could be about anything. My PPG 2150 equivalent has the orange tint, more than I like.

Yes, Ive seen the paint that TSC carries and have considered giving it a try. Does anyone know the ratio of paint to thinner to use when spraying this paint?
