I was wondering if anyone has a kit to put a 3-71 into a Farmall M or what they consist of. I have a 3-71 Detroit and a M with a bad motor and thought this would be a good project.
Thanks,

I know of a SM with the 436 from a 1466 the big thing was the back plate on the back of the block and use the side rails from the 1466.

I have never seen it, but I would like to see someone put a 5.9 liter Cummins in an M or SM. Always thought I would like to try it, but that would probably take a lot of time I don't have.

I've seen M's with 2 cylinder Detroit and Shepard diesels. I was told they were offered as conversion kits back in the '50's.

From what's been said on this board earlier the Shepard Diesel conversion sounds like the fastest way to turn an M into an H. SAm in NS

Sam, I've heard the same thing about that Sheppard conversion kit. No, this would be a user tractor so fuel use is a factor as well as reliability; that's why diesel. I'm getting a lot of good info from you guys, that's why I asked here, thanks. Mguy.

I saw a six cylinder M once. Someone took a 856 gas motor and put it in an M. They lengthened the frame and hood and it looked original. I would imagine an 856 diesel, 560/706, 766 and on and on... would work. Go for a 466 motor.

Larry, that 466, is it what a whole lot of IH trucks and 1066's use? Mguy.

I believ the 466 was used in trucks and the 1586. The 1066 had a 413 in it. Don't get to big or you'll rip up your transmission or simply flip the tractor over.
