My Farmal Cub is jumping time and I cannot get it to stay in time. Once in time it runs like a clock, but when I put it under heavy load it starts missing and no power and stalls. Right now it's dead in the water sitting in the middle of my garden and I cannot get it to start or even pop. I am not sure of what to do and I do not have a manual on the dstributor and timing system.

I'm curious about what leads you to believe it is jumping time? A fuel delivery problem often leads to the problem you have. Points and condenser can also be a problem, but timing usually changes very slowly, if at all. I'm ready to learn.

I have a 1948 Cub. Just bought it last summer, also is my first tractor. Recently while cutting heavy grass my tractor exhibited similar behavior. I checked points, the gap was not correct. I reset according to specs. and it seems to run better. However, if I cut grass that is to tall, in effect overload the tractor it will start to run poorly. Almost sounds like it is dropping a cylinder. As soon as I back off of the load it will smooth out and run fine.

I am curious as I have so much to learn about these tractors.
