We will talk as the tractor engineers did. The governor control lever(which most would call the throttle) on my SC will travel half way up the toothed sector before surging to about half speed out of low idle. What adjustments, if any, can be made to either the governor control rod, spring, or governor which would give me a smoother acceleration? The throttle control rod from the governor to the carb is not sticking. By the way, the engine purrs like a kitten, thanks to all the help from this board.

Peabody: If I remember correctly you have done a fair bit of restoration on this tractor. Did you get into governor at that time? I had to replace the thrust bearing on two of my tractors and spring on internal governor linkage on 130.

However by your description sounds as though adjustment on linkage between governor and carb, is off a bit. I would try the adjustment on that linkage first, it's not far off so just try 1-2 turns of yoke at a time. Sorry I cant remember direction, so just play with it, as you will need that freed up if you do install a thrust bearing. It's definately not internal spring or you would have no lever control. If adjustment doesn't cure, probably thrust bearing is problem.

Thanks, Hugh. I have not monkeyed with the governor-carb linkage, and hadn't thought about it. I will start there. No, I did not get into the governor during restoration. It operates smoothly when applying hand pressure to it.
If that doesn't do it, I will be back in touch, since I don't have a clue what the thrust bearing is. Thanks again.
