Super M - not moving water

My 'new to me' Super M is running quite hot (210-240) and does not appear to be moving water. Went to check the thermostat and it doesn't have one. Is there an easy way to determine if its the radiator, water pump or block that is stopping the water flow?

There are no bubbles in the radiator so guessing its not a cracked head.

Could be the water pump impeller "driver" is broken or missing so the water pump is not turning. The driver is on the front of the fan hub - it 's the connection between the fan pulley and the water pump shaft that sticks out the middle of the fan hub. Look up there while you turn the fan blade by hand (may need a small mirror to see the end of the pump shaft). You should see the pump shaft turning with the fan. If not, you found your problem.

If you find the water pump is OK the problem's gotta a plugged radiator.

OK, looks like thats the problem. Even with a mirror I'm not seeing where this "driver" goes. My shaft sticks out about 3/4" past the pulley, is slotted for a 1/2" so you can put a wrench on and turn it. Then goes to a thin nut looking thing with lots of grooves, then the fan. What is the driver and where is it supposed to be?

Thanks.

The pump driver is kinda tough to describe - and I don't have a picture of one because they're nearly impossible to photograph without removing the radiator. However the driver consists of a piece that fits over the water pump shaft. The driver has two "arms" that engage a pair of pins that thread into the front face of the fan pulley. There's pair of small springs that fit over the drive pins between the driver arms and the fan hub.

Sounds as if you are missing the entire driver assembly. Probably your best bet is to visit a boneyard and try to buy an entire fan hub assembly with the driver installed. The CIH dealer might have though I suspect it's a very low demand item.

Good luck!!

I was missing the entire drive assembly. Stopped a guy I know in town who was on his M and took a look at what I was missing, he suggested calling another local who has a couple M's. 30 minutes after calling and $5 later (he wouldn't take anymore) I had the entire drive assembly. Installation took a bit longer because I had to shorten the springs due to the fan being pushed forward with spacers to clear the aftermarket power steering pump. She's moving water now!

Thanks for all your help Bob M.
