Would like to repaint the rims on my "c". I like the bright silver color. Whats the best paint to use??? The previous owner painted them a dull gray color. I assume the bright silver is the proper color??? I think it looks alot better.

try berkshire equipment in royal center indiana, they may have nos sleeve and piston sets. bearings are real hard to find for the 9 series.

Original rims were galvanized but many folks repaint them using either silver argent or just plain old aluminum paint. I'd recommend some good prep work and then a couple of coats of rustoleum aluminum paint. Even that will dull over time but will help protect the rims. You can always put on another coat if it dulls to much for your taste.

I tried the Rust-Oleum Professional Enamel in the spray bombs, color "Stainless Steel." I like it. It's not as shiny-bright as the aluminum paint, and it's not dull like gray paint. Dad said he thinks it looks really good - similar to the original galvanizing. The rims on my 100 were originally galvanized(as far as I can tell).

You know, I can not find anyone that worked at Electric Wheel or French & Hecht that can confirm the rims/wheels were ever galvanized. I know for a fact they were painted from the mid 70's till the Last Farmall 5488 built in 1985.

I have been curious about that myself, I have sandblasted, wire brushed, and otherwise cleaned these rims down to bare metal, and have never seen any traces of any galvanizing, inside, or out. I think they must have come from the factory painted.

I have a couple of farmalls that I don't think have ever been repainted, a 41 H and a 53 Super H (currently working on the Super H) Tractors have probably spent their whole lives outside. There is no paint left on anything exposed to the elements. Paint would have long since left the rims. There is still some galvanizing left -- It's not paint. I agree with Dr. Evil that the rims were later painted. But, at a minimum the letter series and later were galvanized.
