ive about had it with this motor, the thing ran like crap for years but it ran, now after a rebuild, bearings, sleeves, pistons head, precups, injectors, rings, fuel lines , had pump done last year this thing will not run without the glowplugs and when i disconnect them it dies, if i attempt to hit the throttle it does nothing, like its out of fuel, push the pedal and nothing happens, valve and pump timing are on, does anybody think it could be a bad pump, i need help!!

This is just a thought after reading your post and may not be worth anything to you, but I know a guy who had a 200 AC ( I know wrong color ) but after a rebuild which needed a new crank (not the case with yours) it would run on either but not other wise. Turned out the stroke was just a little too short therefore not enough compression to fire on diesel fuel. I wunder if a compression test would show something? Maybe pistons are shorter or rods or something to where you don't get the compression until you have the extra little bit of heat. Probably no help at all but sounds as though your at the end of your rope so just a thought. Brian

Could be a problem with the pump, but before you do anything else, just have a Case-IH dealership look at the darn engine. Any mechanic who's been around a few Farmall 560's could probably figure out what's wrong with your 282 in no time. You're to the point where you can't just be guessing and throwing money into parts that you might not even need. I know this wasn't what you wanted to hear, but it will be cheaper in the long run. I think it might be more than just the fuel pump, since you say it won't run without the glow plugs on. What's the longest you've run the engine for? Have you gotten it up to operating temp, and if so, does it run without the glow plugs then?

Before you do any thing make sure you do not have the pump 180deg out of time did this on a 236 once and they will run but not worth a crap.
