A couple of days ago there was a question about toolboxes mounted on PTO shields on an H. I can`t seem to find that message now or I would simply have replied to it. I have an H with a box mounted like that, I guess I thought it came that way from the factory, the box has been there since the tractor was new. Maybe a dealer option?

I grew up on an H farmall that had a fordson tool box mounted in that fashion. At one time we also had an M which had a case tool box mounted that way. I figure, if it was good enough then, it's good enough now, I've found a fordson tool box, and sometime soon, I hope to mount it on one of my H's.

What kind of seat is that. I have one like that on my WD9 and I've always wondered what is was.

In the metal part of the seat, it says, "Level Rider Easy Rider".

I was thinking of putting one on mine like yours, I have a few questions. Does it shake when the pto is in use? Does it overload the pto shield if there are many tools in it? Would the cover hit a hydraulic cupler if one was above it? Thanks.

The IH boxes were actually a dealer installed option (or you could buy it and take it home)
they were mounted with tabs from the back of the platform with spacers from the outermost rear platform bolts. I have one that has been there since 1949

John, I have never had an instance of that box ever vibrating as such, but, I will say that it is possible at just the right engine speed and load to get the hasp to rattle a little. Dad used to put a stick through the hasp to keep it from rattling. That tractor and I are the same age, (both 1946 models). I drove it ever since I was able to reach the pedals. As a kid, I put on many hours with a two row cultivator. Toolbox has always been on that tractor. Usually always full of tools and junk. To the best of my knowledge it has never been off the tractor, obviously has never caused the PTO shield to stress crack. I have driven it many hours with a sickle bar mower, PTO in operation, had no affect on causing the box to vibrate. Now as to if the lid would hit a hydraulic coupler, well, I don`t have an answer for you. It might, depending on the mounting of the coupler, you`d have to try it and see.

Thanks!! My Hydraulic cupler (One way cylinder only ) is mounted to the left bolt for the transmission top cover that is seen in the picture to the left of the rear light. I have the light wire going through the empty side of the bracket .
