My Diesel IH 606 dies sometimes. The fuel filters becomes filled with air. Once I bleed out the air, it starts again. I can't find any loose connections. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks for the input. When I got the tractor earlier this year, I drained and flushed the tank, changed the filters. I didn't check the fuel line between the fuel trap and the filters. I may have to do it again.

Bill: I have to agree with others. While there is still fuel going through the pump, if pluged at tank, it will create enough vacume to suck air in where it would not normally come.

I had this happen with a combine once. The culprit turned out to be one of about 6 corn kernals floating around in tank. Every time it happened you could blow back to tank and unplug. Put t back together, bleed it and go again. At the end of season we removed the tank and found about 6 kernals of corn about twice their normal size and kind of like a soft rubber ball from being in diesel fuel.

I agree with what Jim E. said in the post below. What's happening is this- You bleed the air out, run the tractor, as the fuel in the filters gets burned the restricton in the bottom of the tank keeps fuel from flowing to the filters, she airlocks and dies. It's a common problem on older tractors. Carry some tools with you and the next time it happens, take the line from the tank to the filters loose, and see how well the fuel is flowing. Not sure if 606 had it, but some of the bigger tractors built in the late '60's had a check valve in the line to the filters that could cause some strange problems. Good luck, and let us know what you find!

Check your supply line from tank, have found that it can get pluged at the tank fitting or the shut off. Good luck.
