Help! I need to find what 3 point assemblies will fit on this so's I can do more than drag a mower around. Were the 140's, 240's the same? Any info appreciated. My local dealer only knows what shows in the parts book- and by that model only.

Jim, unfortunately it is quite hard to add a factory IH 3-point hitch to a 240, much less even finding one. I highly doubt 3-points from any other model interchange. However, it is not hopeless. There are two things you can do. 1- Find a 240 parts tractor with a Fast-Hitch, add it to your tractor (probably as hard and expensive as adding a 3-point), and add the Fast-Hitch-to-3-point adaptors. 2- Do like I did, I have a 240 Row-Crop, but this should work for the Utility, too- get an aftermarket 3-point for Farmall C, Super C, 200, and 230 that clamps to the rear axle housings. The difference is that those tractors have a rockshaft under the gas tank that is usually used to lift the aftermarket 3-point, the 240 does not have it. You will need to build your own lift. I pinned a hydraulic cylinder to an implement mounting bracket bolted to the clutch housing and ran a heavy cable from the cylinder to the hitch. There are several companies that make these aftermarket 3-points, like Worksaver, Saginaw, and I belive mine is a Cross. Look around on the internet some, I belive Worksaver and Saginaw have websites. Many farm equipment dealerships deal Worksaver equipment. I'll see if the sticker w/ a phone number is still on my hitch and post back.

Hi, You might look into getting a parts manual from binder books. My 240u has a factory 3 pt hitch with many parts missing. Once you have the part numbers. You can search partout sites on the net and might also check with the Case web site for help locating. I've found that some parts like adj. lift links and stab bars for 9n from tractor supply will work. Measure hole distance first. You may have to go the 'fast hitch' route as they were more numerous and unique to IH. Main thing is to check that you have all the linkages required for the 3pt hitch as there is a vertical cylinder floating on linkages at the rear of the differental/trans housing plus linkages running from the cylinder mountings to the lift control under the seat and under the steering box. One set is for raise/lower (top i think) and the other is for draft or depth control under load (bottom ?). I believe that investing a few bucks in a set of manuals--owners, mechanic, and parts--will save a lot of bucks and heartburn/ache later. Mine helped me understand and maintain my tractor better. Best of luck with yours.
Billy
