I have a 706 gas Farmall that ran fine at the end of last season. It would start right up with the push of the button. It sat over the winter outside without being started, and now it will crank, but won't even try to fire. I changed the plugs, wires, points and condenser last year, and it ran great. I pulled the plugs when it wouldn't start the other day, and they were all fouled out, so I sanded and wiped them off, but no luck yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have always heard there is only 3 things that can keep an engine from running, fuel, fire adn compression. My bet is if you clean up that dist. cap and check ignition you may just find your problem. You say there is gas in teh carb. , question is it getting to the plugs????
Could be a gummed up carb too.

I tried holding the plug wire a 1/2 inch away from the plug and got spark. I think there may be a problem getting fuel to the cylinders though. We bought it last year and have been trying to bring it up to specs as far as maintainence goes. The gas tank is rusted inside and needs cleaned out. We will take that off in the next couple of days and get it to a radiator shop. Once we do that, I suppose we can check the lines to make sure there aren't any clogs... My father pulled the carb. apart recently, after it wouldn't start so I am not sure if there could be a problem there. I know it needs a new gasket kit, which we have to put on. I've heard there isn't much to go wrong on these old things, so I'm sure with your suggestions, we'll locate the problem. Thanks for your help!

Doesn't it have a glass fuel sediment bowl? Rusty gas tank means stopped up strainer screen or even a large piece of rust can settle over the outlet.

Yes. Good suggestion though. When you crank it a while, there is gas in the carb., so I think it may not be getting fire.

Try holding a plug wire about 1/2 inch away from the tip of a plug and see if you have spark. Things tend to get wet from condensation over the winter. The inside of the distibuter may be damp and shorting out. Good luck Geoff
