Hi all. I asked a similar question yesterrday but I don't think you understood what I meant. I want to put a rear hydraulic outlet on my tractor. I have the two levered valve(one makes the pressure in the cylinder and the other releases it back to the tractor). My question is how do I hook this up? Which outlet of the three is the return? Or how could I put a return in? Is it ok to leave the liftall pump engaged all the time? Also can I use regular hydraulic oil in the pump? Thanks everyone.

Matt

i wouldn't use anything but hytran. it won't thin out any more than 30 wt as it is designed to run hot. just plumb the return into the fill pipe.

30 Wt NON-detergent oil is the way to go, it should work fine with a remote cylinder, just don't use the cylinder with another tractor that uses anything but 30 wt. If you did it would contaminate the hydraulics by mixing oils.

Hello! Here we go:
All three ports on the side of the pump are pressure our ports. they are designed to allow the oil to be siphoned back in when you release the pump control rod. The weight of the implement will push the oil back into the pump resevoir.

If you want to use a seperate return line from the hydralic piston back into the resivoir then plumb that return line into the drain hole in the bottom of the pump housing. The pump can run continously.

The correct fluid to use is non detergent 30 weigfht oil, the same as the tractor. You can use hydraulic fluid but...as hyd fluid heats up it thins out and the pump is built with such clearances is tha it can loose pressure in the system. The straight weight oil wioll not.

I use my belly pump to run a Saginaw three pint conversion kit on my H. It runs just fine, I routed my return line to the drain as it allows me to have a larger amount of oil in the system. In the future I plan on installing a spool valve with the pump which will allow me pressure both "up" and "down" with the unit.

Good Luck and there are a few websites devoted to this conversion. Do a google search under "Farmall H" and you should find it.

46,

william is probably right about the 30 weight non detergent. That's what the manual recommends anyway - so no one can critize you too much for using it. Also, if you plumb off the left side, use the farthest forward port, the one toward the rear is delayed a bit.

Most people will say that hyd. oil is too thin, won't develop the pressure that 30wt will. The motor oil will work a cyl. on an implement or a lift; with implements you want not to switch them around between tractors using different types of oil. My knowledge of these things is at this point academic. I haven't gotten around to rebuilding th Liftall on my '46 H.
