I own the C that my grandfather purchased new. We have not been able to find out the year of the tractor. I don't have a serial # because he replaced the seat on the tractor and placed the battery in front of the steering wheel. I know that the M's have a serial number stamped in the frame. Does the C have the same thing? How does one go about finding the year of this tractor?

The engine serial numbers on the C don't always match the chasis serial number. The main castings have a date code on them. The third position is a letter that represents the year the cast was made. The letter R stands for 1948, S for 1949 etc.

Dave, this is confusing. Both My C and Super C along with my 44 H and a 45 B have matching numbers. My 50 M does not. I am sure that it has the original engine in it, but the numbers are off by 10,000.

Look right below the number one spark plug. There is a flat machined surface there on the block that has the serial stamped on it.
