Is there any way to tell if a 400 is factory LP By the serial number.I have 2
1955 2805 S
1956 14422 S
The 56 has the more common tank.

Factory equipped LP tractors will have a "C" next to the "S". If not, it is a post-factory installation.

I have a factory LP system on a 1956 W400. I suppose I should check for my "C". If I don't have the letter, I'll let you know.

I guess the factory guy with the stamps was out-to-lunch or took a sick day. I can't find either "C".

The aluminum serial number plate only has the serial number. The engine should also have a "C" but there doesn't appear to be any numbers or letters. The "C" was replaced with a "N" if it was a high altitude LP tractor.

My LP installation is OEM to IHC. There is no question about that. My W400 has the optional die-cast service meter on the front engine cover and tach drive on the distibuter drive.. I am wondering if those were part of the LP package.

You might want to check the casting number on the intake manifold. It should be 358 308 R11. It seems unlikely that an aftermarket supplier could or would use an IH LP manifold.

I have a certifiable as original 300lp, it is an SJ, and a 350U lp that appears to be all original that is a CS.
