I have a 300u and would like to know how far apart the two halves should be split to replace the clutch disc and pressure plate? The kit also includes the pilot and release bearings. I am also thinking the engine and transmission seals should be replaced if not too tough. Anything else I should be prepared for?

The tractor needs to spread apart far enough for YOU to to easily fit in between the two sections and have plenty of working room.

Now is the time to replace any oil seals.

You also might want to completely remove the flywheel and have it resurfaced at a machine shop, and also, this is the time to replace the starter ring gear on on the flywheel if it needs it. A new ring is fairly inexpensive, could prevent some headaches later.
