The problem will be the Cub is so slow in all but road gear, and most hay fields are way too rough in road gear.

A cub should handle a rake if its ground driven and not real big. Say like a NH 5 bar etc. Now if the hay is real thick it might have a little problem but it should do it.

My 1948 Cub pull a dump rake as if it was not even there.

Sure. I use my Cub Cadet lawn tractor to pull mine when I need to move it to mow the grass underneath it.
