F12 needs constant choke

Hi, I recently purchased a non-running Farmall F12. It had no gas to the carb so I rebuilt the feul pump. It had no spark so I put a good mag on it. Now it has gas and spark. I cleaned out the carb and replaced the gasket, but I didn't remove it and boil it out. I got it running last night by pulling it, but it only runs with full choke. Seems to be timed ok because it would fire smoothly. With full choke on, it obviously has no power and starts to die when I drive it. I tried adjusting carb, but couldn't find a sweet spot.
Do I have poor feul flow? Do I have a vaccum leak?
Anybody run into this before? Please Help! Erick

Do all the things the other guys have mentioned and also when you first start it (before it gets too hot and starts a fire), spray some carb cleaner around the intake gasket while it is running. if it smoothes out it is an intake leak. I got fooled on the choke position when I first got my f-12. In is choke. out is go!

Thanks for the comments! Apparently this tractor was rolled over at some point. I found braizing on the the carb flange and the exhaust pipe is welded right to the manifold. I had seen the welds earlier, but they're old welds so I figured the tractor had ran with them for some time. I double checked that the pump was getting feul up to the top and it seems good. With most of the comments seeming to point to a vaccum leak or bad carb, I've ordered a new manifold and a rebuilt carb. I'll let you know how it turns out.

You do know that you push the choke rod IN to choke it right? Other than that, you need to tear the carb down and clean it up!

Check the gas tank for crud or rust etc. blocking fuel flow. My F12 had this problem after sitting for years. You get enough gas dribbling through to keep the flot bowl full static and to start but as soon as you start ther's insuficient flow to run the engine. Remove the sediment bulb, flush the tank and clean the sediment bulb screen. You may need to resort to extensive rust removal methods.

Good luck!

could be lack of fuel, vacuum leak, valves not seated or bad compression. do a compression test first, pull all the plugs, hold the throttle wide opn and check each cylunder, write down the reading for each cyl. then squirt a couple pumps of oil in each cyl, roll the motor over a few times and re test. should be within 10 psi, all cylinder should be pretty close, maybe around 90 psi or so. if compression jumps way up after oiling em, rings are worn, if it doesnt change and you have a low one, could be valves or hole in piston. to check for vacuum leak, start the tractor and spray carb cleaner around the intake at the block and at the carb to intake gasket and look for change in engine sound. that would show your vacuum leak.

I think you need to take off the carb and clean it out good and make sure all the valves are loose under the valve cover.
