The problem with a soap opera is they never seem to end.
So today out of the blue the IHC secretary sends out my full WANTED add in an e-mail to all the members again. I had told him I'm laying off the hunt because of money, so I don't know why he did it. Hours later I get an e-mail from an IHC member who lives north of me. He says he doesn't want to do it, but he's forced to sell his family's '42 H they have owned since '54. He's wondering if I'd be interested.

Well, depends on price, and how quick he needs to sell, and condition. So we'll see...

STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT EPISODE OF... AS THE 38" TIRE TURNS!

As some of you are aware, I'm searching for a completely restored, show-winner ready '42-44 distillate H for $500 or less, delivered to my front door for free.

The search hasn't been going well with those criteria.

It's more like a 1940 Mickey Rooney film: Our likeable, young hero has big ideas and no money. But perseverence and fortitude eventually pay off; however, not before he alienates his family and friends - and nearly gets into serious trouble.

I'll try to avoid that last plot twist. lol

I found out the tractor used to be a show tractor about 10 years ago and is up in Modesto. We're heading north on the 16th, and when I asked my wife what day it was, she said "If you are even thinking about a tractor, you might as well give it up! We aren't doing anything until we're out of debt!"

LOL

We won't be out of debt ever!!

Patience, Mike. Have faith. It took me over five years to get my Dad's tractor back - and I don't even know why I wanted it. I discovered the reasons only after it was back home with Dad... he kept saying it didn't mean that much to him, but once he was back in the driver's seat I could see that it had an impact on him, and still does.

One of the things my wife and I do when we want a rather large purchase is to give ourselves and "allowance" each month that we can put away until it reaches a sizeable amount. Together we weaseled away a few thousand dollars in a few months time for a down payment on a vehicle that we both wanted. I usually end up spending my allowance on parts before it gets to be a real big amount... :o)

No pun intended but we all have our priorities. I'll turn 62 the 20th of this month and it took a long time to find the tractor I really needed. Had a BF Avery single front tire, a H I couldn't keep running because of rust in the tank and ran away with ONE of my girlfriends for ten years. Wife died, moved back to the house I built and no tractor. Bought a IH 240 U and after repainting put it to work cleaning up the place. I think my priorities went astray? Keep looking and you'll find what your looking for but I doubt they will deliver it to your door. David.

I'm all for starting a fund for Mike. As soon as I get the house, vehicles, child support, alimony, ad infinitum paid. David.

More soap than Opera, (at least the robust lady has not uttered a sound yet) Talk him into a shared experience with gradual takeover of ownership. Do this with confidence and convicton. Let her sing out loud. JimN

Ok, there is lots of fun living in a soap operea. Around here its more like living in a comic strip. However---I'll make a pledge to Mike since he is one of my heroes (Navy active duty 15 years) of $ 50 towards to purchase of a Farmall H maybe the one near you, maybe NebraskaCowmans or the one in Wisconsin. With enough help maybe we can get it shipped also. Cmon all you guys, if I can do so can you. My word is my bond.
