I just replaced the bands on my M brakes and they now seem to be dragging. How much should I expect them to drag? In my ITT manual they said to back off the set screw on the underside of the brake cover (which I did), but they seem to drag quite a bit, when I jack tire off of ground, it is hard to turn. Help! Thanks for the input.

I put new bands on an H I'm restoring and adjusted them by the IH manual and they drag also, I figure they will till I run it a while.

If Bob's ideas do not help. I would add that the shafts and pivot points need to be free and lightly lubed with a non runny grease, to allow full release of the band. The bottom adjuster is to keep the band lifted upwards to be free of dragging when released. Some new bands have been either too long, or too thick in the material, making them hard to get set for proper operation. Good luck, JimN

I am getting ready to to the brakes on my M but I have to take off the 3 point hitch to do it. I tried to adjust them without the knowlege or manual and I adjusted the pedals and not the bands. After the manuals came I found the err of my ways! Have you adjusted the set screw in till it contacts the band and then back it off 1/4 - 1/2 turn? that will make them drag if not backed off. Then adjust the pedals for the 1.5 inch free travel. If that doesn't work there may be something inbetween the band and drum. Also was the band bent or out of shape? That is all I can think of, maybe someone else has more ideas. Good luck with it.
