1066 HELP!

I've never done this before. :>(

But, I've got a 1066 that just doesn't have the snort I think it should have; just kinda acts and feels like my 966 to be real honest about it.

Just doesn't have that extra "kick" to it like a 10 ought to and I think it has been squeezed down a little because when I crack the throttle I get absolutey no smoke at all. Just a plumb clear exhaust.

I've need to hook on to the plow to upset 45 acres of bound up ground that just isn't producing right and this is the main reason that I bought this tractor in the first place.

So, long story short, I'm going to turn 'er up 20 horses.

I "unscrew" the smoke screw one turn, is this right?

Thanks,

Allan

If you take the cover off and turn the fuel screw out one half turn and the set the torque rise by tipping the little weight on the the lever to the inside of the fuel screw so that the top is slightly above the surface where the cover touches, you should have a lot more snort.most of the weights where pointing down.

Anyone that knows these "66" series should know how that model 100 pump works. Just turning up the fuel is not the way to start. If ya haven't ever adjusted one of these pumps, find a friend that knows how. If ya take the cover off, on top is the fuel adj., leave it alone and back the torque screw out a few turns. It is located down inside underneath the fuel screw. Also there is a little curved "striker" arm that if you re-adjust it to a 45 degree setting will help ya. We had a 1486 that wouldn't pull your hat off of your head till a mech. friend of mine showed me these simple adjustments, made a huge diff.in that tractor, and we never touched the fuel setting.

Check your rod bearings! If they show copper, change em.

Allan , I can give you the power you need with this 1486. It will pull those plows across the yard. It priced at $6800 today and it needs good home. You can then find some tractor puller to take the 10 off of your hands.

I would guess that if I buy one more darned tractor, I would be under new management around here. :>)

We counted 'em up yesterday and she thinks that 8 tractors (counting those two little garden outfits) is probably the limit in her eyes. :>(

Shoot Allan, that's easy- buy the 14 and just send the 10 over to me and keep your stable at the same number of tractors. I wouldn't charge ya a dime either, just a friend helpin' out a friend..... Heck, I'd even come get it so ya wouldn't have to worry about hauling.

It wouldn't be pullin' a plow so I doubt I'd ever notice that slight lack of ponies!

Allan , you can never have to many tractors LOL. Shoot if my wife put limits on my number of tractors I would have been in trouble years ago. I have some where around 30 of them right now. My only problem is not haveing enough of me to do all the work I want to do on them. I have 3 or 4 I need to get to work on but I just don't seem to have the get up and go to get to them as fast as I want to. But maybe thats part of my disabilty and haveing to do things a lot slower then what I did them 15 years ago

AH go for the gusto and put two and a half turns to her. If the mold boards start to glow red then back her down your plowen to fast.

Here's a way to make the 1066 feel like she's a real powerhouse. Hook up your 686 to the plow and see how she likes it. Then, when you hop on the 1066 and get after it you'll think you have it made!

He, he.

The plow is an 18" four bottom. Really doubt if the 686 could even pull it across the yard. :>)

Darned 966 will handle it okay, but it works 'er pretty hard in 4-Lo. That's why I bought the 10 to match this silly plow.

Might have to go no-til like Gordo. Not. :>)

With the price of fuel Gordo's no till ideas make a lot of sense. A tank of fuel buys a lot of caculators. But if plowing is that much fun then have at it, Shell will love you.

No-til just doesn't work out here.

I can show you the difference right to the silly wheel track. Ground has got to be loosened up from time to time. :>)

They thought that here until it was repeatedly proven otherwise. But to each his own. If it weren't for differences of opinion life would be boring and we wouldn't have baseball.

They all very somewhat but for a rule of thumb thats what we figure per turn to put a little smile on the 1066's face.

If you take the screw all the way out its to much Allan. (:~}) Thats what the pullers use to do around here years ago. About 250HP then.
