i have an international 340 with a c135 gas engine. i was running it the other day when the engine just stopped running. it started running rough and dark smoke started coming out of the stack, then stopped running shortly after. it turns over and wants to start but doesn't. i took the distributer cap off and it does turn when i crank the engine, i have a clear fuel filter so i can see that it is getting gas (i also sprayed starting fluid in carb) when i crank it over it sputters and puts out a darker smoke. any suggestions would be great.

I agree completely with JimN. I think it is flooding. (Check float level.) Also, plugs may be dead from soaking and carbon. mike

Shut off the fuel at the tank. Let it sit for a day or two. Do not turn on the fuel, and try to start it with no fluid, or other stuff. If it starts, let it clear itself up, then open the fuel valve. If it gets smokie again, the carb needs to have the bowl taken off and the float checked, along with the needle and seat, I think it is flooding. The spark plugs may need to be cleaned before it will run (they are probably way carboned up. JimN
