Thanks for the replies, everyone.

I like the "mask it all off and let fly" approach. Almost always, if it was good enough for the factory, it"s good enough for me.

And CKNS, thanks, but I know any added paint won"t match the original. There"s no chance of that after fifty years.

Come to think of it, with my colorblind self doing the painting, very little is likely to match.

Maybe I should just do a camo paint job and get it over with...

Actually you can match 50 yr old paint. O'Rileys (and I imagine other auto supply houses) can use an optical scanner which some of them have, to duplicate whatever color you show them Just bring a piece you want to match with you. I did it to match a 56 chevy I wanted to touch up.
