M Two Way Hydraulic Leak

I have plumbed up a two way valve on my one way system. The system works great, but when the two way valve is in neutral, oil just flows out of the top of the reservoir cap. The oil flow back into the tank is too much for the pipe I am guessing, and some bubbles out the top. The only solution I can think of is either putting a piece of pipe to extend the breather upward, or capping it and putting a breather on one of the other ports to the reservior. These ideas will work, but I have to believe there is another solution that I have not heard of yet. Any suggestions?

The two-way system requires a special cap with a sealable vent hole on the fill pipe. You close the vent for two-way operation, and open it for one-way.

Given that you probably can't find the original-style cap with sealable vent any more, a plain old 3/4" black iron pipe cap will work. You can switch caps back and forth as necessary for one- and two-way operation.

To add enough to that fill pipe so it won't blow out would be tremendously inconvenient and it would make the tractor look stupid. The pipe would have to extend around and above the gas tank.

I'm not near my manuals right now, but I am pretty sure that the original "Christmas tree" valve had a cap that sealed the breather. After I put a two way on my M, I replaced the breather with a solid cap, but it didn't "feel right" to me. Now the return is plumbed to a tee at the drain fitting. It has been this way for several years and given me no problems. It makes me a little nervous when I take into the woods or overgrown pasture. I am always afraid that a stick or something will grab the hose and rip it off.

Yes just put a piece of pipe to extend the breather.

Get a 2 gallon vented steel hydraulic tank.

Mount it under the gas tank in a convenient location with the vent on top. Make sure you can get to it easily to check the level and fill.

Disconnect the line from the OUT on your two-way valve to the fill pipe on the belly pump. Remove all extra fittings from the fill pipe.

Run a line from the lowest bung on the tank directly into the fill pipe of the belly pump. No vents, no tees in this line. The venting is done by the auxiliary reservoir.

Connect the OUT line from your two-way valve into another low bung on the external tank.

Now the oil flows from the external tank, into the belly pump reservoir, through the pump, into the valve, and back into the external tank.

The return flow of oil needs to return to the reservoir someplace other than the fill pipe or else you need to add more reservoir above the fill pipe.

The best way to return the fluid is at or near the bottom of a reservoir. You can use the drain fitting but it really should be 3/4" NPT instead of 1/2" NPT.

Oil returning above the fluid level in the reservoir can cause foaming of the oil.

I just came in the house after finishing up a 2 way on an H and was going to post and seen your post, same problem,I put a tee on the filler tube plumbed the return in the side and vent out the top.switched them around same thing.I am thinking the vent stack has to be higher.any info greatly appreciated.
