Farmall C leaks water

A friend has a C that leaks water/antifreeze out of the inspection hole on the bottom front of the bell housing. No water in the oil. I have a service manual but it does not show things clear enough to tell if there is a soft plug in the back of the block that is hidden by the bell housing. Water/antifreeze comes out the hole as fast as one can pour it in the radiator. Does anyone know if there is one there or if not, where is the leak?
Thanks, Tom/Idaho

You can find brass soft plugs to put in there. Of course the one you have may have lasted nearly sixty years. But I sure liked the feeling I have when I replace them with brass.

As you look forward, the right side soft plug covers up the end of the cam shaft. The one on the left is the one that goes into the water jacket. It should be obvious which one the water is coming out of. I wouldn"t bother with the other one.

Yup. The one on the left is in the lower water passage.

yes there are actually two soft plugs on the rear of the motor..just had fix one of mine..just split the tractor..quite easy on these little tractors..compared to the 986 we had apart this winter..

I'm sure there's a soft plug behind that flywheel
and the tractor would need to be split in order to replace it. I would look for a brass replacement too. That antifreeze is very corrosive when it loses it's rust inhibitor. I would change the antifreeze every other year. Hal
