What is a Farmall H worth? It is in poor condition but been setting in a barn for ten years. The rear tire are still good dont seem to have cracks and still look pretty good. Tin is fair. I sure agree with SonnyDay that some of the responces on this site and the Allis Chalmers site are rude. Some of us guys haven't been restoring these old tractors for 90 years. So give us a break. We are just trying to preserve History alittle. Not a lot of the young people are interested in Tractors today.

I've only been on this site for the last 5-6 years but have noticed the tone of the responses are not quite as friendly as they used to be. Not everyone by any stretch, but a few names that are not quite so familiar to me seem to have come on and brought a little attitude with them. A lot of stressing about "addresses" also. Don't understand why. Hope it all sorts out. I read the posts on my favorite forums daily. It is a part of my day.

"Please help" followed by a shot to the chodes... Not exactly the best way to endear yourself to those from whose knowledge and experience you wish to benefit from.

You may wish to improve your bedside manner.

The ugly truth. in reply to A/C Boy, 03-26-2007 05:36:58
You can"t afford to pay more than scrap price for a tractor that"s stuck unless you can predict which ones are complete junk and which ones need just a little TLC to run again. You can visually inspect castings, tin, wheels, and tires, but that"s about it.

You won"t very likely make any money buying them fixing them up and reselling them, so plan on fixing it up for your own enjoyment and use. There are a lot of H tractors out there, and a lot of them are still being used although not all day every day like 40 years ago.

AC Boy glennster is right on, there are a lot of Hs and price does vary. One in poor condition shouldn't bring over that if that. I have recently bought two a 44 with two row cultivators, good rears, one new rear rim and it runs good and everyyhing works, it is missing the small starting tank has good sheet metal including the grill for 600. Just 3 or 4 days ago I bought a 47 with cultivators and good tires and decent paint, weights all around and runs good for the same amount. I have seen a couple at auction this spring one brought 900 and the other brought 550, but owner didn't let it go. Also this deal with Sonny Day has been going on for a couple of months now with a lot of folks incuding myself skeptical of his intent. As long as everything is on the up and up none of the folks here will be rude. I for one am thrilled when I see or hear of young people showing interest in these old tractors, It is a wonderful hobby. Don't worry about whether or not someone might be rude ask any questions or offer any advice you can. If you get bad advice or give it someone will correct you and if I give bad advice someone will correct me, that is what this board is all about. Everyone here loves old tractors, but do not like to be jacked around by some knothead making things up. By the way your IP address is showing up the same as mine. Good luck

I bought a 51 at an auction for $850 but was prepared to go to $1300. Came with good rear tires. Motor runs good. Several I looked at were wornout! Steering very loose, clutch and brake pedals that wobbled, cracks in the hood, clutch shaft loose. These are some of the things that bothered me. Bear in mind you'll still need to replace every seal and gasket in it, stg wheel, seat, gauges, carb kit, wiring on & on. $300 to $600 may be about right. I think if you're a seller there's really not a lot of buyers so you're in the driver's seat.

I have purchased 3 Farmall H tractors in the last few years, here is a breakdown of price/condition:

Most recent purchase - late 42 model with like-new rear tires and good fronts. Original IH wide front in good but worn condition, tin needs work. Engine/transmission/clutch in good shape. Paid $1500 and sold the wide front for $450.

A few years back I bought this early 42 model with intentions of restoring it and the mower for $400. Sold the wide front for $400. Engine block and head cracked and useless. Transmission full of water, chipped gears, and bearings out. Mower needed repairs to be useable, tin OK.

Bought this early 42 model hoping to get a good block and transmission for the tractor above. Paid $150 and got a good transmission/rearend. Engine block cracked, tin useable/repairable.

Without seeing pictures, I would say what you describe is worth from $200 to $600 max as it is not running.

I like the looks of that wide front end. This H has the tricycle front. Sure would be nice to have a wide front.

I prefer the looks of the narrow front, which is what we put on the late 42 - my early 42 has a Schwartz wide front and power steering. The wide fronts just steer too hard for me for what we use the tractors for - I would have both narrow front, but I use mine for mowing road ditches at some pretty steep angles.

i bouht a 49 h at an auction, has charlynn power steering, 12volt and a trip bucket loader, good tires, strong runner paid 1600.00. without seeing the tractor, i'd guess anywhere from 300 to 600.00. seeif the motor is loose, you may need to spray some pb blaster in each cylinder and let her set for a day or two and see if she loosens up.
