Posted earlier about a 826 I am looking at.

kinda slow in realizing that the steering is hydraulic all the way from the steering wheel. And being that the steering is real hard, does that mean the power part is on the way out and it will still steer but real hard or does it mean that it is about to stop steering all together? I know anyone can't answer for sure, just would appreciate some experiences.

Thanks.

Make sure spindles and thrust brgs are greased and free, good idea to check steering press also. Steering relief valve is easy to inspect\replace. A blown o-ring between steering port and MC valve is also common.

If your other hydraulics are slow change your filter to see if that helps.

That tractor has two pumps the one for the steering also runs the oil for the TA.

Has your TA been acting up also?

I haven't bought it yet. All the other hydraulics seem alright. I was just wondering what turns the front wheels if the sterring pump doesn't work at all.

The steering wheel itself is attached to a hand operated pump. In the event of a steerng pump failure, the fluid is trapped in the steering circut and the hand pump will steer the front wheels. It will take a lot more effort to steer without the power assist. If the tractor has been sitting and the fluid has has leaked out of the steering circut, there is a check valve that will open to allow the hand pump to draw fluid into the circut to replace the lost fluid.
