I have the same problem with my SMTA. It is in fact a CharLyn. I have the new steering shafts made. Can I just bolt the control valve to the existing gauge plate with a little drilling, or does the "kit" come with a special heavy duty mount plate?

I liked the part in the instructions where it says to lower the hood on the installed unit, mark the places where the hood interferes, and "form" the hood with a ball peen hammer!

The installer followed the Charlynn directions exactly when the kit was installed on my Super M! (The hood was indeed beaten out slightly from the inside to make room for the steering motor.)

Fortunately this "body work" is not noticeable unless you are right on top of it.

Gordo - The kit included a special bracket to support the steering motor and gages. However I don't see why the existing gage bracket cannot be cut/drilled as required to do the job.

Punch below. These were scanned from original Charlynn instructions supplied with the PS kit installed on my tractor in the late 60's.

Don are you sure it is Char-Lynn the only ones I have seen there have Behlen as they will not fit under hood. If it is Char-Lynn you should have every thing there for the move. I am sure someone will post a pic for you. I don't have one which is just as well since I can't post pics yet.

George: By his description, it surely does sound like he has a Behlen unit. If so, I don't think they can be moved. mike
