Well heres the deal, Me and my step-dad purchased a running Model A for $500. The tires are dry rotted pretty bad and have a lot of slow leaks. The tires that are currently on there are 13.00 x 24. My Grandpa says they are way oversize, from my research I found 9.5 x 24 is correct size for this model. Am I correct, we are trying to make it origanal as possible. Please let me know what yall run on your Model A.

Thanks
Rob in East Texas

Unless you want to buy different rims, the IH rims were 1 inch less than the tread width of the tire, although there is some overlap. If the tires you have are true 13 inch tread width, the cross section is 14.9 inches, they need at least 12 inch wide rims, which are indeed overkill for an A. If they are 13.6's with a 12 inch tread width you need 11 inch rims; 12.4's/11 inch tread width, 10 inch; 11.2's/10 inch tread width, 9 inch; 9.5's/9 inch tread width, 8 inch; etc. My guess is someone put vastly oversize tires on small rims to make it look "powerful" -- that does not work.

I have two with 9.5 and one with 8.3 that i use for cultivating sweet corn to do two 30in rows with the A-437 cult. The 8.3s are on 8in rims and the 8.3s are on 7in rims.

This is my 45 A. I have 11.2's on it right now with 10" rims. The tires are Titan Long Bar Short Bars I really like the tires very good traction and pulling ablitly. The only thing is that they make it look like a "puller" though. If you are going for Originality this tread is not good. But for workablity is great. I am going to be putting these tires on a allis B that I pull and put 'older' tread type on it and origianl rims back on her.

I have 9.5 X 24 on my Super A. I have some pics in the tractor photos if you wanted to see what it looks like.

I'm in East Texas, Wills Point.

Mine are 11.2 - 24. I think the 9's a pretty narrow for that tractor. They look OK on a cub, but too narrow for an A. I have weights and fluid and still can't get enough traction with that tractor.

Most of them probably came with 9's. My dad's two B's he had in the 40's had 9's for cultivating vegetables. I bought a C about 3 years ago with, I believe, the original 9's on it. The width of the tire depends on what the individual farmer wanted to do with it, in our case it was culivating vegetables in 20 inch rows. That said, I have a Super A with 11.2's on it. All it is used for is mowing -- but the 11.2's increase the ground speed, making it difficult to mow heavy grass and weeds because 1st is too fast.
