The problem with the tobacco farmers in the south was that they only used the A's, Super A's, 100's and 140's for tobacco. We normally had larger two and four row rigs for corn, cotton, etc. The A class was just not heavy enough for land preparation.

LMack I am a tobacco farmer from the south and there are a lot of super a and C around here and when these tractors were new often they were the only tractors farmers had so they had to do every thing with these tractors. My grandpa farmed for years with a Cub and a VAC Case he raised around 15 acres of tobacco 75 acres of corn along with hay for the stock. There is no cotton here in KY. We still have both of the old tractors and the implements for them. We do use larger tractors these days but there is a lot of these old implements around here.

Early mid-mount planters for the Super A were
A-170 (combination - disk openers)
A-171 (blackland)
A-172 (runner)
A-270 (2-row combination)
plus some vegetable planters.
Later on:
A-179 (blackland)
A-180 (runner)
I imagine that all the numbers between 172 and 179 were used on something, although I don't have any lists that show them on Super A planters. I'll take Gene's word for it on 177 and 178. Some of the other numbers may have been only used on Cub planters.

John,
There were two for the Super-A around 1951, the A-177 (Blackland) and A-178 (Runner) Planters.

John I dont remember part no, and I do not know of a after market planter. I do however see one occasionally on ebay. There should be some of those in the south east as there were a bunch of A's and equipment for them sold to tobacco farmers. Good luck with your search.

I have a planter that fits the 140 but someone else has it right now. I have a cousin that has one too that he uses a lot. If no one else comes up with a model for cetain I can call him and see what he has. Any that fits a 140 will fit a SuperA. I did see one on Ebay or at Wegners a few months ago. I think the price was $800?

We used ours for planting black eye peas, zipper creams, and pickeye purple hulls.

Drop me an email if you need me to check further for you.
