I have a 1958 Farmall 350 diesel, I am trying to find out what this tractor is worth. It is all original, wide front end with a factory loader. The engine has been completely rebuild, and a new clutch. I run the tractor on a regular basis for light mowing. The sheet metal is in excellent condition. Any help on value would be greatly appreciated

I bought a 350 Farmall diesel with the Continental engine that looked good and ran good with a lot of smoking for 3000 and paid 225 for hauling. I started fixin the little things and that ran about 1200 dollars. Then I decided to have it overhauled.I H did not handle the engine parts and could not get them and I found them in a place near Chicago and they cost me 1400 and paid 600 for labor taking the motor out and putting it back together and turning the crank.I put it back together and it still didn't run right , so I had the injectors repaired and cleaned and had the injector pump rebuiltfor 550 dollars. I have been offered 3000 dollars for the tractor now and have near7000 in it. Those Continental motors aren't worth a damn and I even may be getting a 300 or350 gas motor and putting in this tractor.the tractor is in excellent shape but those motors are a dog.Good luck on your sale--AL BANE

Well as the old saying goes everyone has one. In my opinion the 350 diesel properly maintained is a fine tractor. Plenty of power for the things I want to do, (even has surprised me at times) never has a problem and always gets me home by night fall. Think you need to find a knowledgable mechanic.

I have actually had great luck with this engine, the person i bought the tractor from had it for 10 years without a problem. I ran it for 4 years, and wanted to get the power back up to snuff. I had new piston sleaves, pistons , rings, bearings, crank and cam polished, valve job, injectors cleaned and polished. The diesel pump was rebuilt, new clutch, generator, and starter rebuilt, valve job, power stearing rebuilt .... . The tractor runs like new, 0 hesitation, starts great on cold days, holds it spead on hills. It is a great tractor. I am thinking about selling it only to get one with a little more horsepower.

If it runs that good and in that good of shape then it's worth 3500-4000 dollars.

Tim,
As they have said it depends on the whatevers... Central Iowa prices are higher than what have been posted. Auction prices are unpredictable. Utility tractors around 40hp with wide front end & loaders are like gold anymore. Recently a 1958 International 350 utility with IH 2001 loader went for $4800- two fools bidding (I won the bid though). Brian

Somewhere between $2000 and $3000 based on where you are. That seems to be the range I have seen. If you have the receipts on the re-build that may make it worth more to someone because the parts for those engines are pretty steep. Best of luck.

The absolute TRUTH of the matter is that something is only worth what the next guy will pay. If the next guy will pay $10,000 then I guess that must be what it is worth, to SOMEONE. Around here you can buy 660 diesels and WD-9's and W-9's for pocket change (around $250) - but elsewhere they are worth big bucks. Heck, I bought a 600 diesel this fall that was all there except the injectors for $300. So if I would have asked what the tractor would have brought on auction would you have told me $300? I doubt it.

Just like my car on Kelley Blue Book or NADA is worth $2500, but I can't get $1750 out of it. So what is it worth? Evidently not even the $1750 I would like to get out of it.

If you would buy a truck and haul those freebies to the big buck areas you could junk your $1750 car and buy a new one soon.

At last, someone willing to tell the truth. Giving a valuation, without seeing or hearing the machine, and depending on the owner's description of its condition, is nothing more than an exercise in guesstimation. My idea of its condition and your idea of its condition will probably never be the same, because we see things differently.

$500 is outa line low ball. Bama above with $2K+ is more fair for real row crop farm country. It has wfe and loader too? Ya gotta think row crop country and not western N.Dak badlands (wheat only country) prices? ralph

Whoever you are, THINK ONCE!! I said $500 just to prove a point. I know it is worth around $2000 (IF IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION), but who knows for sure. Sight unseen, $500 is the max I would pay for ANY running tractor. My description of good and your description of good could be far apart.

ALSO, we farm 800 acres of wheat and 200 acres of corn. WE DO NOT HAVE A WHEATLAND TRACTOR. They are all row crops. Imagine that, a row crop tractor without a cultivator. Ever think of that?

HERE IS THE SIMPLE POINT OF EVERYTHING I HAVE SAID: You cannot in any way shape or form play an appraiser without seeing and actually test running the item in question for yourself.

Steven you are correct about this appraisal stuff. Even if it is in tip-top shape in every way,and someone says it is worth $500 or $5000 or whatever price, you still have to find someone to buy it/pay that much for it. That could take a day, could take a year, you never know.
