I couldn't believe it. I needed a male end swivel for the hydraulic linkage on my Cat backhoe. It's kind of like a small tie rod end but straight instead of 90 deg.. I tried to get a jobber one but the male end type are hard to find. It's about a 5/16 threaded part. I went to Cat and they had to get one out of Spokane. It cost $20 which is kind of rediculous, especially when it says right on the package Made in China. I put it on but couldn't tighten the bolt all the way tight because the new swivel was slightly different and wouldn't let my bucket roll up fast enough. Good thing it uses a lock nut. For the price Cat charges for parts you wouldn't expect them to come from China. Dave

Reading some financial paper it stated that Caterpillar had 36 factroies through China and that they were getting special tax conessions from the Chinese government,so in other words they don"t want to pay western wages and are turning their back on the people who made them their name, made their tractors, bought their tractors and supported them in spite of any compettion,it is often said the bigger a company becomes the greedier it gets and the only reason they are in China is greed.

Cat has pretty much become the Wally World of the machinery business. Probably one of the greediest and most uncaring companies in the United States today.

They are working on building a factory in China to build Perkins & Cat engines for the Asian market.

135 Fan,
It's a little late now but McMaster-Carr has swivel rod ends for linkage.

NC Wayne,
That's really pathetic!!!!

What I forgot to mention...a new CAT pump would have been nearly $700 but they have been discontinued. Think about it, discontinuing a part for a 3306 engine that was used in thousands of machines over the years. The only thing available was the "Classic" part and it was $145 but then had to buy a CAT rebuild kit to make it work. The best aftermarket CAT parts are still being made in Italy.

I could have looked around and probably found one but at least Cat got me one the next day. It seems OK so far. What ticks me off is the price Cat wants for something that probably cost them $2.00. A spring to return the brake pedal was around $30 from Cat. I went to a hardware store and found a very similar spring that would work just fine for $4.00. It was at least plated where the other 2 original springs aren't. Dave

Yep, just found out the other day that many of the "aftermarket" "CAT Classic" parts they sell also come from China. Went through three "Classic" fuel transfer pumps for a 977K loader and all three leaked worse than the origional one did. Wound up having to keep the last 'new' pump and get a rebuild kit for it and replace the bearings and seals to stop the leaks.
