noise from hydraulic pump

I picked up my skid steer after waiting 2 months for a new drive motor. Of course the bill was a lot higher than they estimated. $2600! Motor was $1384 by itself. After tightening the drive chain which they charged me for (It was slapping on the bottom of the chain case) I tried it out before putting the belly pan back on and noticed that at full throttle the hydraulic pump for the loader was making a whirring kind of noise. Kind of a spinning sound that I don't remember. I did have the cover of in the cab, which would make it louder, so I could check for leaks, and if I moved the bucket controls even the slightest bit the noise disappeared and also if I slowed the machine to about 3/4 throttle. Would this just be normal? Everything seems to work good. The new motor makes a slight noise too but maybe just cause it's new. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Dave

Maybe, maybe not. How about some details, Type of pump, etc. Does the pump get warm(hot) quickly? Noise could be pump caviation (not good) or oil going over the relief (not good)

It's a gear pump on the front of the twin hydrostatic pumps. I think it's a Cessna pump. It seemed to get hot but I guess with 3 pumps the oil would get hot. The hydraulics work good without any jerky action so I don't think it's cavitation. If I slow the machine just a little the noise is gone. Same thing if I just touch one of the foot pedals. Not even enough to make it do anything. Maybe just at full RPM's it makes a little noise? Dave
