I am looking for a sprocket shaft seal (final drive shaft). My JD book shows # AT12996T dealer is still looking. The bearing shop has the number but is told it is not available to him. May have to clean old one and rerun it.

2010's use a different seal and might have to come from JD. In my case they were the same as the OEM. It can be a pain dealing with parts people though. Good luck Dave

Drop the T at the end of the part number like Bob did, and it will come up on your dealers computer, he just doesn"t know what he is doing.
Be carefull of aftermarket seals, the 4 lip seal like you need is usually proprietary, and is not sold by anyone other than Deere. The number will likely sub to an aftermarket number, but it will not be an equivalent seal, been through this numerous times on the smaller crawlers. NOTE: To install this seal correctly, you need to have or make the seal installation tool that is shown in your service manual. If you don"t, you will not get the outer lips facing the right direction.

Third Party Image

That's a fancy seal, with 3 dirt wiper lips ahead of the oil seal lip.

The cross-section above is from jdparts.com, which shows AT12996 as still being a good number @ about $61.00. Your dealer can't find one, though? Here's the dimensions:

Shaft Diameter 3.312 IN
Seal Outside Diameter 4.254 IN
Width 0.750 IN
Spring Type GARTER

Try a different bearing shop or an aftermarket parts or undercarriage outfit. Have it measured and try to match it up. I had a 355D loader and they said I had to buy the final drive seals from John Deere. I got in touch with a guy that had 3 350's. He gave me the part number for the standard CR duo cone seals that are identical to the JD ones for about half price. If they're the same type of seal, measure outside and inside of seal surface. The shaft size in the middle doesn't fit tight. One guy at a bearing place didn't know how to read his chart and kept arguing with me. Once I got the part number I had to go back there cause they were the only ones that could get it. Some parts people need a good swift kick! Hope this helps. Dave
