I have a 310B backhoe that runs and operates very good but when I use lower gears in the trans. it takes a second or 2 for the clutch to lock up, and when I use the high gears and let out off the clutch or use the shuttle shifter the clutch takes a little while to engage, and then it all of a sudden locks up and kills the motor, I have also changed the fluid and filters, what is wrong?

I adjusted the speed of shift, and it works alot better, but it shifts harder in reverse than in foward gears , what could cause this?, Thanks for the help

How long have you had this machine?? Did it always act this way?? I've been around Deere equipment for many years and what you are describing is normal operation. When I run a Deere , I usually start off in lower gears and work my way up. The reverser has a slight lag in engagement, this is normal. The speed of shift is to be adjusted only for direction speed of shift, not for engagement after clutching . The speed of shift should be adjusted for a firm , but comfortable direction change . When you dump the clutch in higher gears and the reverser engages, it will act like a conventional dry clutch in a car or truck and stall or lug the engine. To slow the speed of shift turn in the adjustment screw till it feels right. It's on the side of the reverser control valve back cover.

when using any gear in high range it will take a couple seconds to engage and then it will engage all of a sudden and kill the motor ,like I am dumping the clutch, I looked in a manual and saw where the shift speed could be turned up, which it needs but that would make it shift harder, which it doesn't need, could it be the accumulator piston spring, Any help is appreciated

I think you are talking about the reverser, thats usually the problem. There is an adjustment which controls the engagement time near the brake control,i think screw it in to slow, (soften) the engagent. There is also a adjustment which controls the release of the hyd reverse clutchs. I can check the book tomorow if you need me to. The main (dry) clutch is connected to the reverser valve. I have seen several with the main clutch disconnected, just using the reverser clutches.
