Can someone help diagnosis the hydraulic problem I am having.

I have a 1992 410D backhoe that feels to not have the digging power it should, and after you run the machine for a few minutes, all the levers get really stiff to operate, and seem to hang, this is not only the digging boom, but the down riggers, and the front boom.
Is this a failing hydraulic pump, or is the control valve. I think it is the pump since it is all the hydraulics and just the dig boom.
Is there a way to check the pump?
Thanks

You can check the standby pressure of the hydraulic pump. There is a port on the pump itself and an easier spot to access is on the end cap of the backhoe control valve. Looking at the rear of the machine from the rear , it would be on the right hand side of the control valve. There should be approx 2500 psi with the engine running and no functions operating. A failing pump shouldnt cause the levers to stick unless its failing drastically and contaminating the hydraulic system to the point of metal particles binding up the control valves...that could be expensive !! Those pumps , when they fail tend to be toss away items, not much left to "rebuild". A new replacement will be in the 2500 dollar range.. Any other symptom ?? pulsing or chattering when operating anything hydraulic?
