I just purchased a Cat D7 3T, year 1952. It runs fine but won't shift into reverse. The shifter will not go back. Any ideas? Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul, I had one. It has an oil clutch. Mine had to get up to operating temp before it would move. Make sure the old Cat is warm before you tickle her!

the engine clutch must be disengaged and it will only travel forward in fifth gear it only has four speeds in reverse.are you located in cold climent could there be ice in gearcase blocking lever from moving the lever must be shoved forward fo reverse

Hi Randy, We are located in a cold climate. The Cat has been used very little over the past 7 years. I just bought it and plan to take possession in the next two weeks. Thanks

I have a d7 3t cat. Sometimes when I run it up a steep slope and then try to shift it into reverse it will jam up .What I have to do to get it into reverse is to go forward a little and then hold the brakes on so that the weight of the cat is off the tranny gears allowing you to shift it into reverse.Hope this info helps you out.

Hi, I paid $2,000.00 for the Cat. I talked my wife into it by telling her I would build her a horse arena for her at our remote 120 acre, off the grid ranch. Needless to say, that will be my first project once I get the reverse working and figure out how to drive it. It is a cable blade, 1952 year. I believe the 3T was made between 1944 and 1957. Paul PS: I may have a line on another one.
